Duvet choices 'varied' as cold draws in
Published: 12 November 2008
Anyone hoping to get a new duvet this year may want to pay more attention to the fill of the duvet itself as opposed to bedding such as bedspreads or duvet covers, as the choice may be one of the most important a person makes as winter kicks in.
The important differences between duvets have been set out by a bedding specialist, highlighting the important choices a person has to make this winter.Leanne Brownoff of Canwest News said that down is the most popular choice for duvet filling, with large variations in price depending on the quality of feather although allergies may be made worse by this choice.
Polyester filling, she countered, is hypoallergenic and cheap to buy but heat regulation is much poorer, with eco-conscious buyers perhaps put off by their inability to be recycled after use.
If neither of those options appealed to the buyer, she added, wool could be a good alternative, creating a more breathable and natural alternative, particularly alpaca wool.
According to I Love Alpacas, the two different breeds of the animal - suri and huacaya - produced different kinds of wool, with suris giving longer, silky locks.
