People looking for variety in their bedding are asked to look closely when buying bed linen, with an expert warning there are a large amount of similar products in a limited range of fibres available.
The textile market is dominated by a small range of fibres and buyers should look more carefully for new materials, an ecological expert has said.Kate Fletcher, who specialises in sustainable fashions and trends, told the Calgary Herald that people should look for the increasing availability for organic cotton, hemp, bamboo and soy when buying fabrics such as bed linen.
She told the news provider that "no one fibre, regardless of whether it is organic, fairly traded or recycled, can single-handedly transform the practices of a polluting and resource-intensive industry into a more sustainable one".
The finest hemp textile in the world is produced in Italy, according to Fabrics.net, noted for its ability to withstand water better than many other products on the market.
