Canadian bedding under siege from bed bugs

And so it continues: anything from organic to Egyptian cotton bed linen, whether it's a bedspread or duvet cover, is still under siege from sustained attacks by bed bugs, it has transpired.

Canadian bedding under siege from bed bugs Toronto is under attack, ladies and gentlemen, though it's not the kind of thing which can be defended against with ease.

The city, alongside the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, released a report detailing how an eight-month period during 2008 saw the Toronto Public Health Board receive over 1,500 reports of bed bugs in Toronto alone, CBC News revealed.

Author Sean Meagher said bedding was becoming more infested because people lack the understanding and awareness necessary for a decent response to the threat, as they are known to take over a house pretty quickly, particularly bed linen, duvet covers and mattresses.

"Many face serious economic consequences, including loss of income and loss of work," he opined.

"The cost of eradications can run into the thousands of dollars and the replacement of infested household items [is] also expensive."

Bed bugs are around 5mm long and can be found in the seams of mattresses, behind headboards and other locations.
