Child's wet bedding trends 'must be observed by parents'
Published: 03 November 2009
Parents worried about children wetting their bed must follow a range of tips to prevent repeat washing of bed linen and the scrubbing of mattresses, according to an expert.
A range of tips should be followed by parents if they are to lessen or completely stop the number of instances of their child wetting the bed, it has been said. Clinical hypnotist and neuro-linguistic programming expert Alicia Eaton told the Daily Record that many times a child will wake up with wet bed linen, though it is simply a learning experience for them as well as their mum and dad.
If a young one is over the age of five and still wetting the bedding, they should be checked by a GP to see if they have an infection, though medication is only a short-term answer and parents need to ensure they tackle the issue to solve it for good.
Underlying emotional problems are often associated with bedwetting, though Ms Eaton asserted that it is a "simple habit" unless it happens out of the blue after a big move, divorce or similar.
Stopping a child drinking immediately before going to bed, or getting them to use the toilet before bedtime, is also a great strategy, she added.
KidsHealth associated bedwetting with deep sleepers, stating that it was much more likely to happen for those who take a long time to wake up.
