Councillor forsakes bedding for cold hard concrete

A county councillor has gone beyond the call of duty in order to support the plight of those living on the streets without the comfort of Egyptian cotton bed linen or memory foam mattresses.
Citizens from a county in the Midlands were joined by a local councillor when they slept rough in the name of charity over the weekend.Cabinet member for young people in Derbyshire County Council Tracy Critchlow got together with constituents in the Big Sleep Out on November 7th, helping volunteer groups and other authority workers in leaving the comfort of her bedding and trading it for concrete outside Matlock council headquarters, the Derby Telegraph revealed.
Over £1,500 was raised for Action for Children, which organised the get-together to highlight the plight of thousands of runaways and homeless youngsters forced to bear the brunt of the outdoor winter cold.
"This is just one night for the people taking part but for children and young people who are sleeping rough or 'sofa surfing' at friends' houses this is a way of life," Ms Critchlow said to the Telegraph.
It synchronised, in an unplanned way, with matching efforts in Illinois' DuPage County, where over 1,500 adults, teenagers and kids went on an overnight outdoors experience to raise money for the local Bridge Communities Transitional Housing scheme.
