Egyptian cotton 'more popular'
Published: 13 October 2008
Egyptian cotton is now becoming a very popular choice with dedicated bed linen fans but also for passive bedding buyers, with the organic option attracting many new customers in regular high street shops.
The popularity of Egyptian cotton bed linen has been reflected by its decreasing price and regular stocks in a number of stores, it has been stated.Lucia van der Post, writing for the Times, stated that many were hiding below their duvets due to the recent credit crunch, but it was fortunate that those wanting better quality linen could continue to hide in a little more luxury by investing in Egyptian cottonbedding.
She added that shades such as green may be a better choice for the autumn, with white being more of a summer colour for the bed linen renowned for its high thread count.
Ms van der Post added: "Just to remind you, thread count is the number of strands in a square inch of sheeting and, generally speaking, the higher, the better (although most people think anything more than 300 per square inch is showing off)."
Shelly Vickoe, in an advisory piece about buying bed linen, recommended Egyptian cotton for its soft organic feel.
