The extensive ancestry of bedding has been outlined by a keen fan of bed linen, with five different periods studied in detail starting with the Egyptian discovery that saw it as the most comfortable way to sleep.

History of bedding revealed Bedding's history has been discussed by an unnamed linen fan, tracing its evolution from the Egyptian discovery of sleeping on an elevated platform with sheets.

Writing for AJP Online, the author noted that the use of linen was no longer reserved for the elite by the time the Romans ruled most of Europe, with the indulgent society loving soft and comfortable fabrics.

Tudor bedding was also different from the stereotypical austerity many think, with silk and brocade used in bedspreads to keep people warm.

Victorian bedding embraced many cultures from the British Empire, also bringing about new mattress construction - something that today's bedding has benefitted from, with people nowadays adopting duvets over blankets.

The writer concluded that "today's bedding has evolved from that historical bedding, and it's important that we can appreciate how lucky we are to be able to sleep in comfort and style every night." ".

Earlier this month, the Las Vegas Review Journal said that healthy beds were attained through the use of organic bedding.
