Thread count is 'important with Egyptian cotton'
Published: 17 October 2008
A linen expert from Oxfordshire has told of the importance of thread count in Egyptian cotton bedding, noting that bed linen producers were sometimes keen to cash in on thread counts through wily methods.
Buyers of Egyptian cotton should carefully consider thread count when investing in the luxurious bedding, it has been noted. The Linen Cupboard noted that higher thread counts usually meant that it was softer and more comfortable on the skin, with a number between 200 and 400 most desirable for investors - with the writer emphasising that buyers should be wary when planning to buy any bedding over 400 threads.
She said: "Some manufacturers also cheat by using two very fine threads twisted together to make one thread and then double the stated thread count even though it doesn't make a difference to the quality or feel."
Another agency which gives instructions as to which cotton to buy is the UK Pesticide Action Network, which promotes sustainable agriculture such as that used in the production of organic cotton.
