A range of tips has been offered to those wanting to give their bed a winter makeover, with serious bedding taking centre stage as comforters, blankets and big bed linen all given washing care tips for novices and experts alike.
With cold weather creeping into households across the country, heavy-duty bedding is now the order of the day, according to an American news provider.Speaking with the Coin Laundry Association, the Chicago Tribune noted that the predominance of fabrics like wool meant that extra care had to be taken when washing bedding.
When washing down comforters and pillows, a clean tennis ball or two could come in handy as it kept fluff down and prevented clumping.
Fabric softeners should be applied through sheet applications as opposed to liquid additives, it noted, as liquid treatments could be absorbed by comforters unevenly.
The newspaper added that most wool blankets could be laundered.
"Use cold water and a gentle cycle. And fluff dry. Add a few towels to the dryer to help absorb moisture and cut down on the drying time."
In a piece published on Ezine Articles, Kevin Stith highlighted the dangers of not drying a comforter properly after washing as it could result in mildew growth.
