Bedding 'doesn't always make people truly happy'
Published: 09 October 2009
Many people have been surveyed on their tastes in bedding, with mattresses under scrutiny as to them being great purchases or not in the eyes of their owners.
More people need to take care when investing in their bedding, if the results of a new poll are to be taken on board.Consumer Reports polled 17,444 people in the study, discovering that only 41 per cent were happy with their investment in a mattress while 16 per cent believe their choice was poor and would pick something else if they could turn back the clock.
Nearly two-thirds of people who spent at least ten minutes testing the bedding were "highly satisfied" with their investment, while only 62 per cent who bought one without laying on it got the same feedback.
Payments for the asset were also discussed. "The suggested retail price of a mattress is pure fiction. Discounts of 50 per cent or more are common," Consumer Reports continued. "In our survey, only 36 per cent of respondents tried haggling. Among those who tried, 72 per cent got a lower price."
This week, a piece for the Insomnia Blog by Dr Michael J Breus agreed with the turnout of the report, stating that testing a bed is simply necessary before people take it home and decorate it with bed linen.
