Diet could 'add to sleep comfort'
Published: 06 October 2009
Many people rely on relaxing bed linen made from organic cotton or Egyptian cotton, yet it may be the power of a good diet that allows a person to sleep well on an evening, according to an expert.
Most people will, first and foremost, invest in the comfort of their own bed if they want to improve their quality of rest, whether it be through Egyptian cottonduvet covers or organic cotton bedding. However, Naturally Savvy health expert Lisa Tsakos said that people across the world are affected by chronic sleep problems which can be influenced by things that may otherwise be overlooked, specifically a person's diet.
Ms Tsakos explained that eating dessert late, sugars will remain undigested and travel around the bloodstream making people feel wired, restless and inevitably contribute to weight issues.
She recommended people go for lighter treats such as yoghurt before bedtime, while avoiding the likes of chilli before getting under the bed linen, as this can cause the body to overheat.
Other foods which are widely accepted as sleep-promoting include peanuts, lentils, poultry and seafood, due to a property which helps sleep that is found in tryptophan, an amino acid.
