Bed linen 'all the rage' in bedroom
Published: 04 September 2008
Cotton bed linens have been highlighted as being "all the rage" in bedrooms, with bedding made out of materials such as Egyptian cotton now very popular with buyers - but it thread count alone a good way of measuring quality?
A blogger has offered advice to those looking to buy luxurious and long-lasting bedding, highlighting the pitfall of believing that thread count alone is the one important factor in choice. The unnamed writer for Ramblings of a Semi-Gifted Mind stated that while thread count was still important in bedding, it was the length itself that was most crucial aspect of choice as longer fibres meant longer yarns of fabric.
It was also noted that the buyer must address whether or not the bed linen or duvet set is one or two-ply.
"Two ply hyphen? means that the threads have been separated and woven back together so the manufacturer can sell it at a higher thread count than it would generally be," the blogger added.
Recently, the New Zealand Times said that Egyptian cotton was luxurious and comfortable, even if designs can seem a little "mundane".
