Dutch bedding helps homeless
Published: 30 September 2008
Netherlands-based bedding company Snurk has formed a partnership with SZN, a charity for homeless young people in the country, by producing cardboard-printed bed linen and duvet covers to help them get a place to stay.
The Le Clochard project, pioneered by bedding company Snurk, is attempting to solve the problem of young homeless people on the streets with a new charity campaign.Snurk - meaning "snore" in Dutch - is making bed linen that captures the authentic look of cardboard in order to attempt to dramatically reduce the amount of teenagers living on the streets, which apparently stands at 5,000 according to charity SZN.
The bed linen and pillowcases are also produced naturally and without chemicals.
Le Clochard said: "The income is used to fund housing projects which prioritise support for young people in finding work or continuing their education.
"So by sleeping under a cardboard box, you can help a homeless young person out from under one."
British charity Shelter noted that homelessness did not necessarily mean being without a roof over one's head, as many were living in areas without the right to stay there or had unsuitable accommodation.
