Sweet smells 'cause sweet dreams'

While soft bed linen and attractive comforters, pillow cases and other bedding may help a person doze off in luxury, flowers can help promote sweet dreams, research shows.

Sweet smells 'cause sweet dreams' While cuddling up in luxury bed linen may seem one way to secure sweet dreams, new research suggests the smell of flowers can also contribute.

Professor Boris Stuck and researchers from the University Hospital Mannheim conducted research where they piped the pleasant smell of roses towards snoozing volunteers.

The sleepers later reported enjoying particularly agreeable dreams.

According to the scientists, the dreamers almost never recalled smelling anything, they simply reported more upbeat and enjoyable nocturnal visions.

Previously, online health resource Care Fair urged people trying to drop off quickly to settle down and read a book until their "eyelids feel heavy".

However, it recommended avoiding magazines and periodicals as these are designed to be snappy and interesting, which can keep a person awake and defeat the purpose.
