'Fake guest room' needs bed linen

People who don't have the space to create a guest bedroom for friends should pack it into an ottoman, according to a leading TV expert, who recommends bed linen and other bedding in the mix.

'Fake guest room' needs bed linen Thom Filicia, the interior design mogul who has worked with the US version of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, believes it is possible to "fake" a guest bedroom - as long as people are clever.

The stylist told the Chicago Tribune that one-bedroom apartments can provide a remarkable amount of space for a guest room, so long as people are willing to spend a little on storage.

Mr Filicia said that by purchasing an ottoman of dimensions around 36 inches long and 20 inches deep, creative people will be able to fill it with bed linen and other things needed for a good night's sleep.

Inside should go an inflatable mattress, bedding, down pillows and a thin cotton blanket, with down being particularly important as it can be compressed without damaging the material's integrity.

Adding a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and other toiletries can help achieve the hotel guest room feel, the expert continued.

This week, none other than pop princess Kylie Minogue launched a new line of bed linen, doing the official unveiling in Hertfordshire's Grove Hotel.
