Bed-sharing 'could be bad for health'
Published: 10 September 2009
Couples may want to buy two sets of bed linen for their boudoir following new advice which recommends the use of separate bedding to get the most out of sleep.
Intimacy may have to go out of the window if health is more of a concern, according to a new study.Dr Neil Stanley, a sleep specialist, told the British Science Festival that sharing bedding and a mattress could result in pains over snoring, sharp movements, duvet cover stealing and teeth grinding, impacting on sleep for a number of people.
The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital expert told the BBC that people should consider using the marital bed for more intimate activities before retiring elsewhere.
However, he emphasised: "It's about what makes you happy. If you've been sleeping together and you both sleep perfectly well then don't change, but don't be afraid to do something different."
Earlier this year, the Times' Zoe Strimpel noted that many people in successful couples prefer the separate beds approach, including the Queen and fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg.
