Children 'need to get to bed early'
Published: 08 September 2009
Parents must not back down to their young ones when it comes to set bedtimes as a lack of embrace between a child and their bedding on a regular and set basis could lead to sleep disorders, it is believed.
An expert in child psychology has asserted the need for parents to get their young ones off to sleep according to a set of strict rules.Psychotherapist at the University of Tuebingen in Germany Angelika Schlarb informed Deutsche Press-Agentur that sleep disorders can develop in children who are unable to sleep within half an hour of laying under their bed linen.
She spoke of a "power struggle" element developing in the child's mind too, where excuses such as being hungry or thirsty are not acceptable if their young one cannot stay with their bedding on an evening.
"In some cases, the parents are incapable of setting borders or limits," Ms Schlarb continued.
"Give them clear rules, like the number of bedtime stories allowed, and then stand by those rules."
Kids Health says that children between ten and 12 need over nine hours of sleep each night, while those between seven and nine need ten or more hours with their bedding.
