Dogs have taste for bedding? Keep them exercised, says expert
Published: 02 September 2009
Many dog owners have no doubt had troubles with their canine followers causing them all kinds of bother, but when they start chewing bedding such as duvet covers and mattresses, it's time to take action, according to one expert.
For one woman, her dog's bad habits - or bed habits - had gone too far.As a result, the aggrieved party - Sally MacGowan of Coopersburg - contacted animal expert Karen Steinrock of the Morning Call to speak of her Jack Russell terriers and how they spend their time tearing through beds and mattresses with their teeth.
Ms Steinrock highlighted the breed's hyperactivity and recommended that by giving dogs loads of exercise through long walks, vigorous sessions of fetch or other forms of play, an owner can calm down the jaws on the little canine critters.
"You'll still need chew toys, however, and it's more about quality than quantity," she continued.
"What appeals to one dog may not to another. You have to experiment."
Over the weekend, many people may have taken the advice of Elaine Gore, the director of Lifestyle Interiors, who recommended last week that bank holidays are the best time to revitalise the look of a bedroom, particularly through the use of new bedding.
