Even though he should've stayed under his duvet cover and let his bedding help him get better faster, Garry O'Connor made a point of getting up for the big game - and ended up winning three points for Birmingham City.

O'Connor gets away from bedding for goal Garry O'Connor made a point of leaving his bedding to save his team's blushes on the bench this weekend, yet ended up netting to claim three points for his club as well.

This weekend's Premier League clash between Hull City and Birmingham City at the KC Stadium was won 1-0 after a header from the footballer, who had a stomach bug but turned up nonetheless due to the team being ravaged by injury, with only six of seven benchwarmers able to turn up without him.

He was kept in a separate room from the rest of the team in order to prevent other casualties over the weekend, yet it seemed like the virus made him stronger.

"We have had a catalogue of injuries that would absolutely frighten you," said Alex McLeish, Birmingham City's manager.

He continued: "When he came on you wouldn't have known he had been ill, he was very sharp."

Birmingham City are currently sitting pretty in mid-table after wins against Hull and Portsmouth as well as a point against Stoke City.
