Pimped-out beds 'a delight for men'
Published: 28 September 2009
Boy toys in the bedroom may have a completely new meaning after the introduction of a gizmo which will likely have the finest bed linens to match the luxury it provides for men up and down the UK.
Boys' toy is a term usually viewed with suspicion, though the prospect of a bed fitted out with the latest in technology could be the ultimate items to redefine the phrase.According to a recent study of the trend by the London Evening Standard, the idea of laying in a £3,000 bed using the finest wood, mattress and fitted with all kinds of surprises such as TVs, games consoles and fridges could be a rising trend.
It could also be a cracking excuse to invest in luxury bedding such as Egyptian cotton, it could be said.
Whatever the person wants, they're still becoming less of a fad and more of a choice investment for some men, with the newspaper claiming that furniture retailers are seeing a rise in sales of around 50 per cent in the last year, despite them retailing at around five or six times the price of a regular bed.
Peter Burt, the director of online bed seller Righteous & Co, told the Evening Standard: "They are definitely aimed at men. They love playing with the TV when they are in the showroom, they think it's very clever. Their wives have to pull them away."
It's something that Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz perhaps wants to invest in, with the musician claiming last week on Twitter that his insomnia was seemingly incurable.
