'Give time the elbow' if struggling to sleep
Published: 27 September 2010
People who constantly clock-watch are unlikely to be able to sleep.
It is a known fact that some people sleep better than others, but there may be some simple explanations as to why this is the case. This is according to the Psychology Today blog, which highlighted that clock-watching is a common reason why people do not doze off properly under their bedding.
Many will wake up and look at the clock to see how much time they have left to sleep, which can create more problems than it solves.
"Don't be surprised if you wake every morning at 3am, because looking at the clock entrains those 24 hour rhythms," it explained.
Another mistake that people make is by seeing sleep as a job by giving it a daily schedule that must be kept to, no matter what the cost.
"Worrying about sleep, thinking about sleep, is a great way to not sleep," the blog highlighted.
The University of Birmingham recently claimed they had discovered a link between childhood obesity and sleeplessness.
