Sleepless kids 'at risk of obesity'

Findings suggest children may be at risk of obesity if they fail to sleep properly.
Parents need to be doing all they can to encourage their kids to get under their bed linen at night, as failing to do so could put them at risk of obesity, scientists claim.Experts at the University of Birmingham found that a lack of sleep triggers a chemical reaction in the brain, leading the child to believe they are hungry.
In the findings presented at the British Sleep Society conference, the researchers revealed that this encourages them to go in search of unhealthy foods to satisfy their cravings.
Dr Shahrad Taheri, who was involved in the study, said: "In this context we do not mean total sleep deprivation, but partial chronic sleep deprivation, perhaps having one or two less hours sleep than we need each night."
Mygloss.com recently suggested that applying the principles of Feng Shui to a child's bedroom can be a great way of encouraging positive energy to circulate.
