Time to go green in the bedroom

As Britons put an increasing emphasis on making their properties more environmentally-friendly, they could find that there are even steps they can take in the bedroom - including buying some brand new organic cotton bed linen.

The luxury bed linen combines comfort, practicality and greener ethics - as no fertilisers or pesticides are sprayed on the cotton plant crops, meaning the farming of the material has a less damaging effect on the environment.

In addition, the material is suitable for any person who may have a skin sensitivity to such chemicals - leading to a restful and luxurious night's sleep.

Shining a light on energy saving

There are plenty more ways that consumers can make their bedrooms a greener place to sleep. According to a recent article in the Guardian, LED lighting is set to become the "next big energy-saving move".

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) use just a fraction of the power consumed by traditional lightbulbs and are also more efficient than other forms of low-energy lighting, the news provider claims.

Indeed, 35W halogen bulbs, which are commonly found in spotlight lighting, can be replaced by an LED bulb of just 4W. However, the Guardian adds that they can only be used to replace directional lighting, rather than the standard 60W bulb.

"If you are looking to replace the old-style bayonet bulbs that provide 360-degree light, you're better-off with the ubiquitous low-energy, compact fluorescent bulbs which offer considerable savings in their own right over the old-style filament bulbs," the article continues.

Keeping draughts at bay

Many Britons may agree that the key to a good night's sleep - along with comfortable bed linen - is a quiet room in which to rest. With this in mind, the Guardian asserts that double glazing should be a consideration.

While double glazing can help keep all exterior noise at bay - which may be particularly beneficial to households living next to a busy road - it also reduces draughts, with as much as 20 per cent of heating energy lost through typical single glazed windows.

"To maintain the value of your home, look for windows in the same style as the originals," the newspaper advises.

All of these tips may be put to good use by Britons who are looking to take the first steps to making their home a greener one. And once completed, homeowners may be sure to enjoy a guilt-free night's sleep tucked into their new 100 per cent natural organic cotton bed linen.
